A Day Off

Work has been busy and overwhelming lately and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down so this past Monday I took the day off. It was a last minute decision but I figured I could use some time to do whatever the hell I wanted. And I did. It was great. I ran a couple errands but then I did a little retail therapy for myself. The holidays are quickly approaching and that means my brain is on full throttle thinking of how to decorate my house. I absolutely love my house during the holidays. It is the only time I genuinely love my house. I like to decorate with greenery and lots of lights. To me, a house feels homier when it’s all dressed up for Christmas.

Since it was my day I decided to do a little looking/planning at a few stores. I found out a little secret about TJ Maxx and it’s home department. I don’t usually shop that department when I’m there but decided to take a gander on Monday. Wow. New favorite place to buy kitchen stuff. They had a baking table that I would have liked to just box everything up and take home right then. But I restrained myself. I managed to only purchase a set of two silicone whisks and a new set of measuring spoons. Then I went to Joann Fabrics with a specific item in mind and hoped they had them. I am addicted to the Cinnamon Scented Pine Cones they have there. And they were on sale. Win-win.

I saw a photo of a quick and easy pine cone wreath while perusing Pinterest and I decided I would make something similar. I had a wire wreath form already and some green floral wire so I snapped up some pine cones and a few berry and small pine cone picks.

The original tutorial used a wire hanger which would work just as well. Not quite as sturdy as what I used but you could form it into any shape you want, which is a bonus. I could totally get behind a square pine cone wreath.

I got to work with some non-sense television (Vanderpump Rules) in the background to keep me company. I don’t really watch that show unless I’m staying at my sister’s house. She loves that stuff. But, I figured it wasn’t something I would get pulled into easily.

I used the biggest pine cones out of the bags and placed them so they looked centered on the wreath. I was not gentle with them. I wanted them to be as secure as I could get them, so I pushed them down onto the form while I placed a piece of the floral wire around the front of the pine cone and then twisted the two ends together around the back of the pine cone and onto the the frame to lock that sucker in place. It took a little wrangling to say the least. The pine cones don’t cover up the entire wreath frame so I used the smaller pine cones from the picks to fill in the gaps. Admittedly there are still some gaps that need coverage. I still have some berry picks I want to shove in it and I will probably add some white pine in there as well once Thanksgiving has come and gone. I am also thinking of adding a string of battery operated lights too. For now, it smells good and looks just fine until I can make some final decorating decisions on it.

I used two bags of the scented pine cones, however there were some small ones left. I only wanted the large ones. Depending on the size of wreath you want will depend on how many pine cones you will use/need.

Once I have it decorated a bit more, I’ll post it again.
