It’s All About the Dress

It’s All About the Dress

Confession time.

I love weddings.

Well, certain parts of weddings. I love the planning, decorating, food and dessert portions. I have a slight obsession with Martha Stewart Weddings magazines. I still buy them even though I’ve been married for almost four years now. (I seriously bought the last issue based solely on the cake pictured on the front.) Sometimes I do get a twinge of regret when I see such beautiful ideas. The “I wish I would have thought of that” feeling. However, I wouldn’t change anything about our wedding.

Heads up: Shameless brag post about my wedding ahead! Scroll to bottom for a pull apart cupcake dress if you hate wedding talk!!

Andy and I knew we wanted to “go away” to get married. Kind of a wedding, honeymoon and vacation all wrapped into one. So we first had to decide the where. My first thoughts were the usual: Mexico? Jamaica? Virgin Islands? It was then, for the first time in the ten years Andy and I had been together that he tells me he hates sand. Wait, what?? Sand? But yes, he hates sand. Doesn’t like the feeling of it in his shoes. Plus, we knew the wedding would be in the summer months and who gets married in the tropics in the middle of July? So, those were out. I set out to find some place cool that fit our personalities.

Somehow, by divine intervention, I managed to find Five Pine Lodge in Sisters, Oregon. I instantly fell in love. I still want to live in the cabin we stayed in. The lodge and its surrounding cabins are located in Central Oregon which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Granted, I haven’t seen every place on Earth but trust me, it’s gorgeous and definitely worth the 2,000 mile trip out there.

Since we were going to be driving out there I knew I was going to have to be creative with decorations, etc. Whatever we needed for this vacation/wedding/honeymoon would need to fit in the cab and bed of the truck. And also be inexpensive!

I raided my parent’s basement for an assortment of Ball jars. Added some barked twine for handles, lights and moss. Voila. Centerpieces. We borrowed the pine cones from Mother Nature. The tables and benches were rented from a local company.

It was a ten minute ceremony and before long we were eating, drinking, laughing and enjoying ourselves. Just like I had hoped. Above all I wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and be comfortable.

What might be my most favorite part of the day was dessert, of course! I knew I wanted something different and fun. As you all know, I am not into fondant or fussy cakes. I found a place in Portland that makes gourmet ice cream sandwiches. It was the perfect ending! Check out Ruby Jewel ice cream here.

Now, since the title of this post is about the dress I should probably tell you about mine. I bought it online from Macy’s for under $100. My mom found my shoes for less than $10. The necklace was a splurge from Anthropologie at about $40. The one thing I do sometimes regret is not doing the whole dress shopping experience.

And speaking of dresses, posts of pull apart cupcake wedding dresses have been all over Pinterest lately. Naturally I was excited to try it out for a bridal shower. It’s always fun to get out of my comfort zone and try out new things. I think it turned out pretty  fabulous!

And it was pretty simple to do once you get started! I even made the coral bow myself! There’s nothing you can’t do with a glue gun!

I can’t leave this post without writing something about Roy.

Roy belonged to the owners of Five Pine Lodge. He was a total wedding crasher! Roy kind of mills about the resort and makes friends with everyone. He invited himself into our cabin one night and slept on our couch. He was such a sweetheart that we didn’t mind when he inserted himself into the festivities!!
